Chapter 4

Steve states, "As venom, pride deadens the ache of our low self-esteem and makes us feel better about ourselves.  it adapts to any personality and attaches itself to any virtue so that even the most pious person and the most selfless act are vulnerable."

William Law wrote, " We love humility and hate pride.... only in other people."

C.S. Lewis said, "if you want to find out how proud you are the easiest way is to ask yourself, 'How much do I dislike it when other people snub me, or refuse to take any notice of me?"'

So the question is What is the root of Pride?  is it overconfidence or folly?

How can we conquer pride?  is it by becoming humble or wisdom?

Let me know your thoughts........

  1. Pride often is the barrier that keeps us from learning anything new, I would have to say conquering it would have to start by humbling ourselves admitting that we need others.

  2. To clarify what I think you are saying then is that wisdom is what is needed to conquer pride. We know that wisdom comes from or begins with the fear of the Lord, or reverence for Him. Pride is putting your self above others which would also include God. Yet one can be humble and still feel they are better than the other person to which would then cancel humility as the root solution to conquering Pride. Wisdom, on the other hand comes from reverence for the one who created all things, knowing your origin and truth will conquer Pride.
